butterflies in my focaccia

March 27th, 2009 — 9:51pm

have i told you that i got into cooking and baking lately? well, this is my latest obsession apart, of course, from other ones like sewing and jewellery making.

last night i tried to make my own bread! i chose an italian-style one, focaccia, following the recipe i found in the food for friends cacheby fran warde and photographed by debi treloar. guess what? it came out really nice, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. well, to be honest, apart from the fact that the recipe was easy to follow, i tried to source some nice and wholesome ingredients. i used organic flour and cherry tomatoes. overall, the bread was tasty and baking it was a pleasant experience which i am looking forward to repeating!

we washed down the focaccia with some tasty ginger beer, watching film. crash is one of those films where all stories run parallel and are interrelated. i loved the way the director “debates” on racism in the usa, exposing different points of view. not to be missed!

back to life! this morning, while browsing around i bumped into this designer (via fine little day) and i immediately fell in love with this dress. isn’t it pretty?! i think i need to have it! with the net of course for the butterfly hunting!

have a nice weekend!

my etsy and the country living fair :: part 1

March 16th, 2009 — 10:02pm

there is so much going on lately and it’s been so long since i last wrote a post. well, i have been busy working on my online shop on etsy. it’s been open for two weeks and i have already sold two items, fact that makes me smile and gives me courage to carry on. plus, i made it to the first page on etsy with my linen scarf! i am updating my shop every week with new stuff so please go and have a look and if you have any question please email me!

i also visited the country living fair on the 16th of march. i was really excited as it is the most popular fair of its kind here in the uk, organised by the country living magazine. i believe it is something very similar to the marie claire idees expo i visited in paris last november. i was also excited as i was given a press pass and a small goodie bag!

so much inspiration there! i was particularly determined to discover handmade and vintage treasures and i was not disappointed.

my first stop was at the rita kearton’s stand. her prints are awesome! such a lovely work. rita is a really nice lady, very kind and genuine. her work is inspired by her childhood and everyday life. i couldn’t resist to her creativity so i went for her beautiful cards! oh, i love her work!

second stop was at marti murchison’s shop. marti is a textile artist who also collects vintage objects. she crafts beautiful cushions, quilts and bags. lovely to meet her. you can see her work here.

while i was browsing through brocante stalls i couldn’t just ignore anna perring’s ceramics! oh my goodness! her stand was like it was from a beautiful creamy dream! there are no second to her dreamy tea lightscache, beautifully crafted. anna’s key material is porcelain which she crafts in her studio in cockpit yard, in london. she was happy enough to talk to me about her technique and her love to the natural creamy colour of porcelain.

further down my eye was caught by another ceramics craftswoman. linda bloomfield loves simple shapes and natural colours. i fell in love with her gorgeous teapots, japanese inspired cups and mugs! i am definitely adding them to my wish list!

to be continued!
