my friend gave me this wonderful book full of soft and inspiring poetry by noni stamatelou (νόνη σταματέλου).
i am so fascinated by her words, full of meaning.. for those who can read greek pls enjoy one of my favourite poems.
Παράξενο κι ανέλπιστο που ‘ρθε το Καλοκαίρι…
Η μάνα μου κι η Παναγιά
κρατώντας με απ’ το χέρι
μου δείχνουνε τα πέλαγα.
Με νοιάζονται
Και με ταϊζουν τρυφερά γάλα και μέλι.
Κι ένα καράβι ολόλευκο
Ολόλαμπρο, ανθοστόλιστο
Με καπετάνιο αρχάγγελο και βασιλιά
Φάνηκε στ’ Αγιονέρι…
Κοχύλια, φρούτα και βιολιά
Παιχνίδια με τον άνεμο
Κόκκινες φυσαρμόνικες
στων τζιτζικιών το στόμα…
Περιγελώντας τον καιρό
κρεμώ στου γλάρου το φτερό
το παιδικό μου πρόσωπο.
after the christening, we threw a huge party for kids and adults! we danced and played to bits! next morning i was aching all over my body but i felt so so happy.
last sunday was a very exciting day for me! i became godmother and i now have a goddaughter! i am so so happy. her name is maria and she is a very sweet baby – and i dare to say even though she is only one year old – with quite a personality. the greek orthodox christening procedure has a lot of theatrical elements, with lots of dos but i enjoyed it all. i had to “shower” the baby with olive oil and wish something good for her. i did wish for her to be healthy and lucky!
